Sycophants are a** kissers.  Source (Click me)

As soon as I came to know about 'The Great Indian Blogging Contest'
and what it basically was, the first thing I did was Google what sycophancy and a sycophant exactly meant. Among the various definitions and explanations, I came across this on urbandictionary.com : "a sycophant is someone who kisses a** to get ahead in life, often claiming positions above hardworking people." Yes, this did made me laugh at first, but on closer 'scrutiny' I found it to be one of the most apt definitions to the word.Based on my understanding of this word, I present to you my personal take on 'chamchagiri'.

We meet thousands of people everyday. And according to our 'observations' and interactions with them, we allot them different categories. Some are placed in the highest possible category called "the family-like" or "best friends", some a little lower at "friends", then some "just-friends" and so on. Among all these categories, the most interesting category is "Chamchas" or sycophants as the English state it. These category of people are found everywhere whether it be in colleges, offices, political scenarios, friend circles, or any possible place or group. They range from being a peon to a student to even the leader of a country. These people are also possibly the only kind who don't mind being a servant to someone else for their long-term benefits.
This category is possibly the most unbiased one. It doesn't discriminate you based on your caste, creed or religion (C'mon, have you heard something like "Hindu chamcha" or a "Muslim chamcha").
Sycophancy may be called as an art. People who practice this art, namely sycophants, are the smartest of manipulators known to mankind. These people know that they are manipulating another person to fulfill their dreams. They know that their deeds will give them a higher status in the eyes of this person. They are the best opportunity-grabbers. And the best part about them is that they don't have the 'EGO' problem. They take the words "Koi kaam chota nahi hota" (No work is small) quite seriously and apply it to their daily lives. However, the beauty of this art is that the person on whom this art is applied, knows very well about it but still he admires it and relishes it, because hey, who doesn't like hearing sugar-coated verses about themselves.

Now. Why exactly do we classify people in this category? Or, simply put, what 'deeds' help these sycophants become one.
Following are the excerpts from various conversations between sycophants and their 'shikaar' showing off blatant and bland sycophancy at its peak.
Scene #1. Place: Office. Time: 11:30 am.
Enter a sycophant disguised as an employee and other employees.
Syco: Hey there!
Emp. 1: Hey! What's up with you these days?
Boss Enters.
Syco : Bro just a ... *pauses on seeing the boss enter*
<rushes to the boss> Good Morning Sir! Let this bhakt do some seva of his boss. *takes the boss' bag*
Boss: MORNING!? What!? Dude, it's night! *winks*
Syco: Oh, well, so sorry sir I think my eye needs a checkup it indeed is night time! I meant Good Evening! :)
Others turn to look at this amusing creature.

Well The Boss Is Always Right ;)

Scene #2. Place: Political Party HQ.
Enter an MP, a journalist and other party members.
Journo: Sir, what is your strategy this time to prevent corruption and black money from expanding further?
MP: Our party aims at empowering women in this country. The women in our country are very strong. They can do anything.
Party Member: MP saab Zindabaad! (All hail to thee, MP sir)
Others: Zindabaad! Zindabaad!
*MP smiles and gives Aashirwaad*
Journo: But, sir my question was about corruption and black money!
MP: Yes! I know I heard it! That is why I am saying that our women are a country in itself! They are mega-power!
Party Member : MP saab Zindabaad!
Others: Zindabaad! Zindabaad!

Well, if you hold power, You hold power!

Scene #3. Random Place.
Enter wife and husband.
Wife: I look so ugly! *sighs*
Husband: Darling! Dare you say that! You are the most beautiful person on Earth. Your face is enough to lighten anyone's day! Yes, its that bright! Your eyes are shinier than the stars! Your nose is the most perfect shape I've ever seen! And your lips are even better than the ones shown in those lipstick ads! Your teeth are whiter than the regular Happydent chewing gum eaters! And your cheeks are pinker than The Strawberry Blossom! And XYZ and ABCD and #$#% and what not!

Because, Jhoru ka Ghulaam is anyway mainstream.
