'Intl.' Women's Day? Like, Really?

So, the world celebrated International Women's Day on the 8th of March and rightly so. It is being celebrated since the year 1909, and since the year 1996, United Nations marks out a specific theme for every year. For 2015, the UN theme was 'Empowering Women, Empowering Humanity: Picture it!'.

But, I believe this day does not apply to one country of the 196 in the world: India. As, a very highly 'educated' person of this country says that India has the best culture in the world. In India, there is no place for women. Yes, he is very much right, the most culturally forward country in the world does not need women. If this is the case, then marriages must be banned in India, or maybe made illegal, 'coz every Indian citizen who marries is going against his country's culture! If he needs to be culturally-bound then one man needs to marry another, which by the way is still illegal in India. So, coming to conclusion one cannot marry in India if he respects his culture. I think that would have been a little better, because the 'educated' moron would have not been born then. He adds that the women in this country should be home by the evening! Yeah, of course coz the night is only for the men.

If you have watched the BBC Documentary, India's Daughter, which interviews the rapists and all the links to the 2012 Delhi gang rape case, you will be awestruck the very second the video ends. The rapist does not seem to have any regrets whatsoever about the night, the lawyers fighting the case for them seem to be from another planet, and you feel for families. More so, the remarks made throughout the video by the rapist and the lawyers from India are the ones that actually set you back. You are forced to kick your grey matter and rewind the video to actually believe what your ears heard. Starting off with the criminal first. He says, that raping the girl was not actually their contention. The gang wanted valid reasons as to why the girl was out this late night, with a boy. The lack of interest on the part of the couple to converse led to a physical spat between the group and the couple which ultimately resulted in the grave crime. The criminal further adds that the girl was wrong on her part by retaliating back to the rapists. If she would have allowed the thing silently, they wouldn't have killed her and would have left her after the job was done!

Coming to the lawyers, apart from labeling India the country with the best culture, they objectify females into being diamonds and flowers, signifying precious gem and soft parts of the society, which ultimately lead to the dogs coming out of their kennels. According to the lawyers, a 'shareef ladki' doesn't leave home after 6:30pm, don't wear 'galat kapde' and doesn't do wrong things. If the above points are satisfied in a girl, they are responsible for rape happening in our country. Yeah, the rapists are of course not because they are blinded by the women as they 'put sex in their eyes'.

These are just a few remarkable remarks of the many remarked by remarkable men of our country. More so, these are remarks of the society, what the general society thinks about women. No, I'm not blaming any one person, I know all are not same. But this just breaks my heart out. The way some really educated persons think about the daughters of this country!

Its really high time go beyond those really  inspiring quotes lagging around our FB timelines and Twitter feeds about the women and their empowerment. Its time to take a stand. Stand for the most beautiful creatures on land. And not only for one day, the 8th of March that is, for all the 365 days as well. IWD should be just another day in our lives and not the ONLY day. For once and for all, I really felt Rahul Gandhi did at least one great job in his career so far. Making the word 'women empowerment' trend throughout the country, if only for not-so-right reasons. Yeah World. That is the word. WOMEN EMPOWERMENT.
